The Dutch public transport system is excellent. Almost all areas can be reached either by train, bus or tram. Eindhoven Central Station is situated in the city center. Many national and international trains arrive and depart here. Please be advised you can buy your train ticket in advance. In this way you are well prepared for your journey, plus you will get a 8% discount if you buy your ticket via the Championships site. A single fare Amsterdam – Eindhoven will be 17,00 euro instead of 18,50.You can also buy return tickets from Eindhoven to Amsterdam via internet, or in the promo village. Public transport
How does the public transport work in our country.
The OV-chipkaart is the ticket for public transport in the Netherlands. If you carry an OV-chipkaart with you, you will no longer need to think about bus, metro and train tickets. You can travel on trains, trams, buses and metros with a single card. Read all about the OV-chipkaart here below.
We would recommend you to buy an anonymous chipkaart
- You can share your card with the whole family (but not at the same time). For example, you can use the anonymous card to travel to Amsterdam by train and the next day your son can use the same card to take the bus to the swimming pool.
- Available at train stations, in newsagents, supermarkets and at service counters.
- If you load credit, you can use the card immediately.
- The price for an anonymous OV- chipkaart is € 7,50
- It is not possible to travel with an age discount. This is possible with a personal OV-chipkaart only.
- If you want to travel by train only, we recommend you to buy train tickets with discount at the website of the European Masters Championships. This is cheaper.
Load before you travel
You will need to load the card before you start your journey. You can do this with money, which means you will be travelling on credit and will pay per kilometre travelled. Or you can do it with a travel product, such as a season ticket for commuting or a discount ticket for offpeak travel.
Checking in
You must always check in and out with an OV-chipkaart. At the start of your journey, hold your card against the screen on a gate or card reader. Your card will be checked to ensure you have a valid travel product or sufficient credit. Then the gate will open, or the card reader will beep to confirm.
Checking out
At the end of your journey, or when you transfer to another mode of transport, hold your card against the screen on a gate or card reader. The card reader will check whether you have travelled using a travel product or on credit. If you have travelled on credit, the card reader will display the cost of your journey. The boarding fare, minus the cost of your journey, will be returned to your card. Don't forget to check out! Otherwise you will lose your full boarding fare (!).
Personal Chipkaart
Children and passengers over 65 travel at discounted fares because of their age. This discount can only be applied if you are travelling on credit with a personal OV-chipkaart. The discount applies to the basic fare and boarding fare. You can pick up a paper application form for a personal OV-chipkaart at the counters for public transport
How much is the boarding fare?
The current full boarding fares are € 4 for traveling by bus and for traveling by train € 20,-. You will not be able to travel if you have negative credit on your card.

Shuttle Service
Guests who have booked through the EC Masters organization at Center Parcs will receive on arrival at the reception a transport card for the shuttle service to the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium. Guests who have not booked via the EC Masters organization can buy a transport card for € 50,- at the reception of Center Parcs and the transport desk in the pool. The shuttle service runs every 20 minutes. On Saturday, September 7th will the buses from Center Parcs drive via the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium to the Open water finish location. A timetable will be available upon arrival.

Transport by air
Schiphol Airport Amsterdam
The main international airport in The Netherlands is situated near Amsterdam at 120 km from Eindhoven, a 75 minute train trip away. Schiphol is a very modern airport and offers a variety of extra services, such as a nice shopping area, restaurants and meeting rooms, banking facilities, car hire and an international train station.
Eindhoven Airport
Eindhoven Airport is a modern international airport which is specialized in flight connections for the business market. The short check-in and check-out times and a car park right in front of the entrance make flying to and from Eindhoven Airport very comfortable. Eindhoven Airport is a 10 minute drive away from central Eindhoven.
Transport from Eindhoven Airport
Bus 400 and 401 go form the airport to the train station in Eindhoven. From here you can take the bus to your hotel or the pool. Bus 170, 171 and 172 stops around the corner of the pool and bus 17 in front of the pool.

Hotels Transport
The EC Masters organization offers a paid transport service between the hotels and the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium. You can sign up for transport from the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium to your hotel at the transport desk in the pool. Here you can also make an appointment to be picked up at the hotel (based on availability).
Terms and Conditions Transport
1. The ride card cost €20,- (10 rides), and is for sale at the Promo Village and transport desk at the venue
2. The ride card is valid from 31 August till 7 September during the European Masters Championships.
3. One ride between the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium and one of the hotels from the EC Masters accommodation program hotels (excluding Mercure hotel Rosmalen, IBIS Tilburg, Mercure Tilburg en Carlton De Brug in Mierlo) cost 1 ticket
4. A ride can be booked at the transport desk at the venue
5. Pick up at the front of the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium
6. Transport from the hotels to the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium is only possible when a reservation has been made (reservations can be made at the transport desk at the venue the day before you want a transport)

Rent a bike

For many hotels, riding a bike is a good alternative. Bikes can be rented at several places in Eindhoven, and also at our venue. This can be used to travel from the pool to the hotel and back, but of course discovering the Eindhoven area with a bike is possible too.
You can hire a bike for a day for 15 euros only.

By Car
The Pieter van den Hoogenband zwemstadion is close to the A2 highway. From the A2, take exit 33 “Waalre/Valkenswaard”. Then follow the signs for “Genneper Parken”. At the first traffic lights after about 500 meters turn left. You will see the Swimming Stadium on your left hand side and after a few more meters a parking where you can park your car for free. From the parking you can walk to the Pieter van den Hoogenband zwemstadion.

Visa for the Netherlands: The Schengen visa
The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area: 26 European countries of the European Union with no border controls between them. These countries issue a common visa, the Schengen visa.
Who needs a Schengen visa?
Whether you need a Schengen visa depends on your nationality. If you are a national of one of these countries, you need a Schengen visa for a stay of up to 90 days.
You do NOT need a Schengen visa for a stay of up to 90 days if you are a national of one of these countries.
